Kozie Cares Medical Outreach, an initiative spearheaded by Akosua Manu, has brought essential healthcare education and screenings to the residents of Adenta Constituency to promote health awareness and early detection of breast cancer.
The event began with an informative session led by Dr. Adepa Boateng, the resource officer. She highlighted the importance of comprehensive breast health checks and self-examinations as early indicators of potential issues. Dr. Boateng stressed the significance of regular check-ups for women and dispelled a common misconception by emphasizing that men are also at risk of developing breast cancer.
This valuable health education session was part of a free health screening organized by the Kozie Cares Outreach Initiative. Over 1,000 Adenta residents attended the event, where they received comprehensive screenings, including body weight measurements, breast screenings, blood pressure checks, blood sugar level tests, and eyesight examinations.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an international campaign dedicated to promoting early detection and prevention of breast cancer, served as the backdrop for this event. The Kozie Cares Medical Outreach focused its efforts on the residents of the Adenta Constituency, particularly those living in the SNNIT flats.
In Ghana, where over 4,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, studies reveal that 70% of these cases are identified at advanced stages. The urgency of proactive health education and screenings is underscored by this statistic. The Ghana Health Service has recognized breast cancer as a significant concern, with several women diagnosed or losing their lives to the disease in 2023 alone.
Appreciation
One female beneficiary of the Kozie Cares Medical Outreach program, who received a free breast screening, expressed her profound gratitude to Madam Akosua Manu, the Member of Parliament hopeful. She emphasized how the initiative not only provided her with crucial health services but also relieved the financial burden of medical expenses. He praised the Kozie Cares Medical Outreach team for this transformation and highlighted the positive impact of such health initiatives on individuals’ lives. These programs play a crucial role in enhancing the overall health and quality of life for the community.
