The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) chapter of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) was on Saturday December 19 inaugurated.
The KsTU chapter therefore becomes the newest local chapter to be added to the list of GRASAG local institutions.
Performing the inauguration, GRASAG national president, Samuel Sagoe, admonished the newly elected leaders of the local GRASAG not to toy with their studies and research. He noted that the leaders must know that their primary reason for being in school is to study and contribute to the development of the country through impactful research.
He used the opportunity to take members of the local GRASAG through the history of the Association. He also outlined the aims and objectives of GRASAG as well as the responsibilities and benefits available for member institutions.
Mr Sagoe urged the newly inaugurated GRASAG to abide by the laws of the Association, assuring them that the National GRASAG is always available to come to their need whenever such needs arise.
Excitement
The Dean of Graduate School of KsTU, Dr Patricia Owusu-Darko, expressed appreciation to the GRASAG National for taking time to come and inaugurate the GRASAG KsTU. She noted that management of the school and the graduate students are excited to be part of the mother association, adding that GRASAG KsTU would do everything it needs to do to make the national body proud.
Dr Owusu-Darko advised all graduate students in the country to avoid plagiarism and aspire to be authentic in their research work, saying there are a lot of funding opportunities available for post-graduate research.
She expressed the hope that Ghana, through GRASAG, will in the near future produce prolific researchers whose works will be ground breaking.
The president of the local GRASAG, Yusif Mahamud, also expressed appreciation to the national leaders for the inauguration.
The KsTU chapter, following its inauguration, will be officially ratified at the next GRASAG national congress.
The inauguration was attended by the GRASAG president, Samuel Sagoe; General Secretary, Kwasi Frimpong; Organising Coordinator, Harrison Dormenyo Agbedanu; and Financial Controller, Yusif Suleman.
