Some stakeholders at the validation ceremony
The National Youth Authority (NYA), in collaboration with the National Peace Council, has drafted and validated a National Youth Peace Charter for the youth of the country.
The Charter is to serve as the guiding principles to the youth of the country, particularly as Election 2020 draws near.
The validation which, exercise took place on Wednesday October 28, 2020, in Accra, according to a Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NYA, Nelson Owusu Ansah, was to get buy-in from the youth who are the actual stakeholders of the charter.
No partisanship
The CEO of NYA, Sylvester Tetteh, urged the youth to decouple the purpose of the charter from partisan affinities.
He indicated that the charter is the first of its kind in the country, and urged the youth to embrace same.
He disclosed that a team of 30 experts carefully selected from various stakeholder organisations and youth groups worked on the draft, saying the NYA deemed it necessary that the Ghanaian youth would ‘own’ it by validating it.
The NYA CEO further disclosed that the final signing of the document by various youth groups in the country would be done tomorrow October 31 at the University of Ghana.
He challenged the youth to protect the relative peace the country is enjoying and not avail themselves as agents of violence to self-seeking political actors.
The National Youth Peace Charter, when signed into effect, will serve as an appendix to the National Youth Policy of Ghana. The document will be composed of ten chapters, six subheadings, and 24 articles.
