The Eastern Regional election team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Baba Jamal, have boycotted the Electoral Commission’s collation of results at its regional office in Koforidua.
Mr Jamal accused the EC of delaying the collation process deliberately at the regional level, saying the NDC has already collated their results from all the 33 constituencies in the region.
According to him , he thought that the EC was going to count and declare the results for the 33 constituency in the region as agreed on.
“We have been here since morning and everything is moving slowly. You have so far announced just 13 constituency results. We as the representative of our party in the region need to get done and join our team in Accra before the EC makes any attempt to declare its final results,” he angrily said.
NDC’s collation
Meanwhile, he told the media that they had so far collated the results from all 33 constituencies and the NDC had got 38.53 per cent of the total presidential votes from the region.
He added that all the collated votes from the 33 constituencies, per their calculations, showed that “we have managed to garner 468,871 votes from the region.”
“We are aware that you have already transferred the regional results to the headquarters and that means we being here won’t change anything. So we will take leave of you so that we can attend to other matters because whatever your results are, we already know our percentage,” he added.
