As I Grow, a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with Maame Koma Foundation, has donated several educational supplies to Katiajeli E.P Basic School in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region.
The donation was to help create a better learning environment in the community for students who find it difficult to get simple educational materials to aid their learning.
School uniforms, school bags, shoes and other important learning materials were presented to the students. The NGOs also extended the donation to the entire community by donating clothes and some relief items.
Support and appeal
Speaking to the media, the founder of Maame Koma Foundation, Francisca Koma Addo, said she saw the need to support children in rural communities who do not have access to educational materials such as exercise books, writing materials to help create a conducive environment for their learning.
She noted that the surge in teenage pregnancy and school dropouts in such communities was basically due to a lack of simple educational materials to aid in teaching and learning.
The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of As I Grow, Debrah Bekoe Isaac, took the opportunity to take parents through the importance of education. He urged them to make meaningful investments in their ward’s education.
“It is sad how children in some parts of the Northern region are deprived of education due to lack of basic school facilities. If these children are not managed properly, they might end up in various social vices. We therefore call on the government, NGOs and individuals to come to the aid of school children in deprived communities,” he added.
