The global economic down turn that resulted from the coronavius pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War brought untold hardships on Ghanaians. This impacted the 2024 elections as the suffering voters became raged with the managers of the economy and decided to vote them out of power.
To make matters worse, government appointees also lost touch with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members at the base, thereby causing majority of the NPP grassroot members to feel the pinch of the economic recession though their party was in power. This greatly affected their loyalty and commitment to the party.
Regardless, the NPP would have still performed better than it did in the 2024 elections if the party had remained united. Unfortunately, however, that wasn’t the case. The party was sharply divided from the top to the base.
The 2024 presidential elections results reveal that about Two million Ghanaians who are either sympathisers or members of the NPP did not vote for the Elephant.
Apathy
These voters either voted for the NDC or refrained from voting entirely.
The rank and file of the party has blamed this unfortunate phenomenon on disunity the party faced. So, the great and small in the NPP have resorted to preaching unity, calling all members of the party to forgive one another and unite.
It is therefore worrying to see some members of the NPP endangering this call for unity with unacceptable public comments in the media space. One of such individuals is Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, a private legal practitioner and member of the party.
Mr. Ampaw is reported to have said on Wontumi TV that Anas Arem Yaw Anas will be releasing an expose on Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the former Assin Central Member of Parliament, should he be elected as the 2028 flagbearer of the NPP.
Of course this kind of communist inferior tactics will not win a single vote for his preferred candidate for the party’s 2028 flagbearer. There are better lawyers and critical thinkers in Mr. Agyapong’s camp who can deflate such obsolete tactics.
Commentaries
Nonetheless, in the event that Mr. Ampaw’s preferred candidate wins the NPP flagbearer slot, Mr Agyapong’s supporters may take offense in such comments and become aggrieved. Such a situation may endanger unity and party cohesion, which will in turn affect the party’s electoral fortune as it happened in 2024.
This is not the first time the private legal practitioner has treated Mr. Agyapong with disrespect and disdain. He is on record to have addressed the Assin Central lawmaker as politically immature person, who isnt fit for the office of the President.
Aside from the fact that such comments by Mr. Ampaw endanger the unity of the party, an offense against Mr. Agyapong is an offense against millions of NPP members. This stems from his holistic, selfless service and philanthropic deeds in the party and the nation as a whole. Therefore, the earlier the tongue of the lose talker is tamed the better!
Prudent
It is prudent, that the elders of the the party and the supposed beneficiaries of Mr Ampaw’s lose comments caution him to desist from such needless communist inferior tactics before he succeeds in destroying the party.
The danger lies in the fact that he makes such comments on pro NPP media platforms. This makes his comments accessible to thousands of NPP members. This makes it possible for him to infuriate thousands of Mr. Agyapong’s support base in the party
The NPP must face the 2028 elections with a united front if it wants to stage a come back and it is indeed possible with unity. In view of this, Mr. Ampaw and all other party members who engage in public comments that endanger unity must be tamed at all cost because it is just impossible to build unity with such lose talkers.
