The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has presented a symbolic traditional stool to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of its Bicentennial Anniversary launch held at the historic Osu Castle on Sunday, December 22, 2024.
The gesture signifies the church’s recognition of the President’s contributions to the nation and its commitment to fostering national unity and cultural heritage.
The announcement was made by Reverend Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, Clerk of the General Assembly of the PCG, during his remarks at the colorful event.
According to him, the presentation of the stool was not only a gift but also a profound acknowledgment of President Akufo-Addo’s leadership and dedication to national development.
Significance
The traditional stool, a symbol of authority, unity, and cultural identity in Ghanaian traditions, holds deep significance. Rev. Dr. Odonkor explained that the PCG’s decision to gift the stool reflected the church’s alignment with promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage and the importance of leadership grounded in morality, justice, and inclusivity.
“The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has, for two centuries, been an integral part of Ghana’s growth. We see this moment as an opportunity to celebrate our collective journey as a people while appreciating those who lead with integrity,” Rev. Dr. Odonkor stated.
He added that the stool embodied unity, a core value the church has upheld throughout its history.
Commendation
President Akufo-Addo commended the PCG for its immense contribution to Ghana’s development, particularly in the areas of education, health, and social welfare. He noted that the church’s steadfast commitment to nation-building aligns with his vision of a prosperous and unified Ghana.
“I am deeply honored to receive this symbolic gift from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana as it celebrates its 200 years of existence. This stool, which represents authority and leadership, reminds us of our shared responsibility to serve the people and uphold the values that bind us together,” the President remarked.
He further praised the church’s continuous partnership with the government in providing quality education through its numerous schools and addressing healthcare challenges across the country.
