President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, together with the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, and traditional authorities of Adansi, in the Ashanti Region, yesterday inspected works on the 120-bed capacity Adansi North District Hospital at Fomena.
The district hospital, which is about 80 per cent complete, comprises an Out-patient Department (OPD), male surgical ward, female surgical ward, 16-bed paediatric wards, male medical ward, female medical ward, theatre, recovery room, 32-bed maternity block and other facilities that make it meet the standards of a district hospital.
The hospital is part of the $175 million project to deliver six district hospitals, initiated by the former regime in 2016, and continued by the current government, to promote health care delivery in the country.
The Adansi North District hospital is one of the projects started and abandoned before the Akufo-Addo government took over the administration of the country in 2017.
Funding
Ahead of the President’s visit, the Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang Manu, disclosed to the media that the Government of Ghana had written to the Government of the United Kingdom for funding to enable the contractor complete the project as scheduled.
He added that the government is also exploring other avenues to get adequate funds to complete similar health projects across the country.
According to Mr Agyemang Manu, the project will be completed in four months.
During the inspection, Mr Fredrick Hsu, the Group Chairman of NMS Infrastructure Limited, the construction firm executing the project, walked President Akufo-Addo and his entourage through the overview of the project.
He assured that there is commitment from stakeholders to ensure that the hospital is completed within schedule.
