Frank Asiedu Bekoe, Political Assistant to the Chief of Staff, has denied any involvement in a brawl that was witnessed in the NPP over the weekend at Suhum in the Eastern Region.
“I wish to state with all certainty and clarity that I am in no way a party to the scuffles at Suhum, hence the publication by some media outlets must be treated as gross misrepresentation and upmost distortion aimed at casting a slur on my hard won reputation,” he said in a statement released yesterday.
Some traditional and social media reports linked, Protoa, as Mr Bekoe is popularly known, to the brawl. But according to him, he has no capacity and interest to insight party grassroot communicators against the party hierarchy in Suhum.
“Rather the rift was between supporters of the MP (Hon Oboafo Kwadwo Asante) and members of the Eastern Regional Grassroot Communications who had come to sympathise with my good friend Opare whose father was deceased,” he alleged.
Fight
One Jamalo, who is said to be the driver of the Suhum MP, over the weekend, inflicted knife wounds on one Kwasi Amoani at a funeral ceremony.
According to the Police, Jamalo attacked the victim who is also a member of the NPP communications team after a misunderstanding ensued at the funeral of another party communicator.
The misunderstanding, which resulted in a free for all fight among supporters of the MP and the grassroot communicators, also resulted in the injury of another party member who was later treated and discharged at the Suhum Government Hospital.
Blacklisting MP
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Grassroot Communications team of the NPP says it has indefinitely suspended their communication on matters involving the Suhum MP, in both traditional and print media, until a formal apology from the MP is rendered.
They say their decision is based on the fact that the MP had disrespected them by informing them that he did not recognize any of them.
In a press release signed by Samuel Boakye, a leading member of the communication team, they said all individuals must be careful in their dealings with the MP and his team since they have the tendency to assault without the least provocation.
“We are disappointed in the actions of the MP for not showing leadership throughout the process of the attack on our colleagues; not being able to calm tempers down knowing very well that we all worked towards his victory in 2020 and continue to work for the NPP party; not being able to even visit our colleagues and those of us who were severely assaulted in full glare of his presence by his own team members and masterminding the attack on us and innocent members of our dear party,” the statement said.
