The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Samuel Payne, has urged the leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress to be truthful to their supporters.
He believes that executives of the NDC have not been truthful to themselves and to their support base with regard to the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections, which have created confusion in the minds of their followers.
The NPP’s Regional Secretary, in an interview with the Daily Statesman in Kumasi, agreed that the opposition party has the constitutional right to dispute the outcome of the elections in court, but it does not have any evidence to back its allegations, hence the numerous press conferences.
He added that the leadership of the NDC had misled their followers and given them false hope, which he believes has made them to be uncertain on what action to take.
Clutching to a straw
“How can you admit and jubilate that you won the 2012 presidential election with 50.7 per cent of votes cast and challenge someone who has won with 51.2 per cent in 2020? This is strange and its high time the top hierarchy of the NDC sat up and analyzed issues like this without being too emotional,” he said.
He continued “It is not only followers of the NDC who are confused; their leadership do not know what to do as well because they lost the elections. The sad aspect is they don’t have any evidence to present to court because the Electoral Commission of Ghana conducted a free and fair elections.”
NDC demonstrate
Meanwhile, the NDC women’s wing on Tuesday embarked up demonstration in Kumasi to register their displeasure concerning the elections.
Former President John Dramani and his party leadership have rejected the presidential and parliamentary election results after President Akufo-Addo and the NPP were declared the winners.
Following the declaration by the EC, some NDC supporters have engaged in all sorts of violent acts, including the blocking of roads.
A case was reported at the Suame Divisional Police Command where some NDC supporters were alleged to have stabbed an NPP supporter after an argument.
