Portions of a bridge on the Akosombo to Tortibo road in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region was washed away by flash flood last week, leaving vehicles and passengers using that section of the road stranded.
Passengers were made to abandon and disembark from their vehicles at both ends of the bridge to cross by foot before continuing their journey either by foot or motorbikes.
Inconveniences
The Assembly member for Tortibo, Jonathan Ayamdo, expressed worry over the unfortunate incident, saying the bridge had been in deplorable state for some time now and had been reported to the Asuogyaman District Assembly for consideration.
“This problem has been there for some time now, and it’s not like I haven’t done anything about it. As I speak with you, my proposal is on the DCE’s desk, pending approval so that this bridge can be well constructed,” he said.
Mr Ayamdo stressed that the situation is worrying, especially to farmers who use the road in transporting their large quantities of farm produce.
The Assemblyman together with residents and commuters appealed for the construction of the bridge to avoid any serious damages or complete collapse of the bridge.
Meanwhile, a team of engineers, including officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), have since visited the scene.
