Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, the wife of the late Deputy Minister for Finance, John Kumah, has officially lodged a complaint at the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters against Blessed Godsbrain Smart, a journalist with Onua TV, over claims regarding the death of her husband.
Captain Smart, in a viral video, alleged that some individuals within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) were responsible for poisoning the Ejisu legislator, leading to his demise on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
The journalist claimed that several prominent NPP leaders, including former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, had been targeted for poisoning, with alleged victims also including MP for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah Kubi, and Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.
Even before the official autopsy report on Mr. Kumah’s death could be released, Captain Smart asserted that poisoning was the cause.
Distress
However, in her complaint to the police, Mrs. Kumah expressed distress over the false claims made by Captain Smart, stating that they were causing unnecessary pain and suffering during their grieving process.
Mrs. Kumah has requested the Ghana Police Service to launch an investigation into the journalist’s claims, stressing the importance of uncovering the truth and holding those responsible for spreading false information accountable for their actions.
The police have yet to comment on the matter, but Mrs. Kumah’s complaint adds another layer to the ongoing discussions surrounding the circumstances of her husband’s death.
Allegations
The allegations made by Captain Smart have stirred controversy within political circles and sparked debate across the country. The NPP leadership has vehemently denied any involvement in the alleged poisoning incidents, labeling the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
