
The 2024 edition of the Green Ghana Day has been slated for June 7, with a target of planting 10 million trees across the country, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced.
This year’s event is in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), with a focus on various areas, including illegal mining, landguard situations, and and the execution of the government’s premier afforestation initiative, the Green Ghana Project.
During a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, at his office yesterday, the Lands Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, disclosed that it was to apprise the latter of the decision to hold the 2024 commemorative tree planting event at Burma Camp.
The decision, Mr Abu Jinapor explained, comes after a consultation with relevant stakeholders, adding that the ceremony will be performed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to officially kick off the nationwide exercise.
The Minister appealed to Lt. Gen. Oppong-Peprah to collaborate with the Ministry to ensure its effectiveness by providing logistical support.
Having commended GAF for the frontal role it continues to play in the implementation of various policies and initiatives by the Ministry, Mr Abu Jinapor congratulated the Lt. General on his appointment as Chief of Defence Staff.
Collaboration
In his remarks, Lt. General Oppong-Peprah assured that the relationship and collaboration between both parties will be strengthened under his watch.
On the Green Ghana Project, he welcomed the responsibility and honour as host of the commemorative tree planting ceremony and promised its success. As for logistical issues, he stated that the Army will make available every resource needed for the successful implementation of the project.
