Legal practitioner Kwesi Botchway Jnr, Esq., has formally petitioned the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) for detailed data on jobs created in Ghana between January 2025 and January 2026.
In a letter addressed to the Government Statistician at the GSS headquarters in Accra on Monday, March 2, 2026, Mr. Botchway invoked the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), seeking an official breakdown of employment figures for the period under review.
Titled “Request for Information on the Number of Jobs Created from January 2025 to January 2026,” the letter states: “I am writing to request information under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) regarding the number of jobs created in Ghana in 2025.”
Mr. Botchway is specifically demanding a sectoral breakdown of the jobs created, calling for clarity on how many were generated within the public and private sectors.
He requested: “A breakdown of the jobs created, including Number of jobs created in the public sector, and Number of jobs created in the private sector.”
Beyond the numerical breakdown, the legal practitioner is also seeking institutional details about the entities responsible for the job creation.
According to the letter, he is requesting: “Details of institutions that recruited or created these jobs, including Government ministries and agencies, Private companies and Other entities.”
Mr. Botchway indicated that the request is rooted in broader public accountability concerns, emphasising the importance of credible employment data in assessing government performance and economic He explained: “This request is borne out of national interest, as understanding the job creation landscape is crucial for transparency and accountability in governance.”
