About 200 NDC youth in the Bole constituency, the hometown of the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, have defected to the governing NPP.
They were welcomed into the NPP by the party’s National Youth Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, who urged them to vote massively for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the party’s parliamentary candidate for the area, David Deima, in the December 7 general election.
“Don’t vote for a party because of where the presidential candidate or the parliamentary candidate is coming from. Vote for a party that has real appetite for development,” Nana B said.
The Savannah Regional Youth Organiser of the NPP, Raphael Akati Mahama, who accompanied Nana B to welcome the defectors, expressed appreciation to the youth for their resolve to ensure that the Akufo-Addo administration gets ‘four more years to do more’ for Ghanaians.
Mr Akati urged them to live an exemplary life with good traces that will be capable of bringing more supporters of the NDC into the NPP.
Development
The leader and spokesperson of the defectors, Alhassan Anas, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, cited the massive infrastructural development in the constituency and the implementation of numerous social intervention programmes by the government as reasons for the defection.
The group, who in 2016 carried NPP branded casket to signify ‘the end of President Akufo-Addo’ said they had been neglected by the NDC after deceiving them to embark on the ‘shameful’ act.
“John Mahama is our brother who has neglected us over the years,” the leader of the group said.
They have pledged to step up the campaign in every corner of the constituency to make sure the NPP wins the Bole seat for the first time.
