Disability not Inability (DNI) Foundation has won a prestigiuos award at the 2021 Humanitarian Awards Global gala.
The DNI Foundation was named the ‘Physical and Mental Disability Organisation of the Year 2021’ for its work of aiding persons with a variety of disabilities.
Humanitarian Awards Global (HAG) presented the awards to the NGO during a ceremony at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
The Awards also launched a new category called “Frontline COVID-19 Heroes,” which aims to recognise and honour outstanding health workers and staff from a variety of institutions that have made significant contributions to the fight of the worldwide pandemic over the past two years.
DNI Foundation, which has been around for three years, has helped many people, particularly children, to become productive and self-sufficient citizens through education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and skill acquisition.
Achievement
The Foundation spent a total of GHC53, 391.00 in 2020 on seven main projects that benefited over 300 people.
It also enrolled five students in school, both vocational and mainstream, and provided financial assistance to a JHS student the following year.
The Foundation said in a statement that it had planned to train and place three people in hairdressing and fashion design, as well as provide walking equipment and aids to roughly 100 people across the country and support surgery for three people.
It will also participate in the annual Pad for Ladies with Disabilities (P4LWD) campaign, and donate to four disability groups around the country.
The award organisers believe that putting the spotlight on individuals and organisations will not only celebrate them but also build a strong platform for them, by giving them a voice and opportunities while they continue to build a positive change in the world.
