Captain KODA

A member of the NPP National Communications Team, Lawrence Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has described as false, malicious and without basis, allegations being levelled by the opposition NDC’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi against Akufo-Addo government security capo, Captain KODA.
Mr Gyamfi has alleged that Captain KODA is actively engaged in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.
The NDC Communications Officer said the galamsey report authored by former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng vindicates the party’s claim that government was never determined to fight illegal mining.
Addressing the media at the ‘Moment of Truth Series’ at the NDC headquarters, Sammy Gyamfi contends that galamsey was bound to flourish under the NPP government and it is no surprise that Captain KODA is engaging in it.
Rebuttal
Following a robust rebuttal from the NPP Communicator that the allegations were a total fabrication, many felt Sammy Gyamfi should provide some evidence to buttress his claims.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr, the NPP Communicator, who is also a student at the Ghana School of Law, further stressed that such claims against Captain KODA are based on hasty conclusions and a ploy to destroy his image.
He added that Captain KODA has not acquired concessions to mine illegally.
This comes on the back of a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, naming some top government officials as being engaged in the illegal mining canker, popularly known as ‘galamsey’.
The renowned professor who served under President Akufo-Addo during his first term insisted that the rot goes as high as the government seat, Jubilee House.
Claims
In the said document, the renowned surgeon mentioned some individuals he claims frustrated his effort and the committee he chaired from addressing the canker.
“Throughout our struggle with illegalities in the small-scale mining sector, what baffled me was the total disregard of the President’s commitment to protecting the environment. I can state without any equivocation that many party officials from the national to the unit committee level had their friends, PAs, agents, relatives, financiers, or relatives engaged in illegal mining. Most of them engaged Chinese working for them.
“I am not referring to party people who had their legitimate concession and were mining sustainably as they were instructed to do. There are appointees in the Jubilee House that are doing or supporting illegal mining or interfering with the fight against the menace,” excerpts of the document indicated.
