The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) has commissioned an Astroturf pitch at Abelenkpe in the Ayawaso West Municipality of the Greater-Accra Region.
The project forms part of the vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to provide each constituency with a modern multi-purpose sports facility.
Speaking on the commissioning ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Jerry Ahmed Shaib, said several Astroturf projects had been executed in the six regions within the coastal zone under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).
IPEP & others
According to him, IPEP is one of the government policies that allocates one million dollars to each constituency for special infrastructure and social intervention projects.
“Projects are determined through stakeholder engagement and bottom-up needs assessment process. CODA leads the implementation of IPEP in 109 constituencies in the six regions that make up the Coastal Development Zone,” he said.
The CEO emphasised that the Authority had implemented a number of social intervention programmes like CODA Credit Union, CODA Drive, CODA Health Train, CODA Fishers Support, CODA Farmers Support, among others.
He added that the CODA Clean Beach Campaign, which seeks to make the coastal communities clean, would continue to serve its intended purpose.
To this end, he challenged individuals from all walks of life to be mindful of their health and treat their surroundings clean.
“I implore you to take good care of your community because it is your immediate environment. When you litter it, you are likely to face the repercussions in the not so distant future,” he admonished.
