The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has hit children in Western Region, with three positive cases recorded in the Prestea_Hunivalley municipality. According to Emmanuel Kofi Tamakloe, the municipal health director, the victims are aged 7, 10 and 13.
He said this unfortunate discovery was made following tests conducted on seven samples by the health directorate. All the samples, including that of a 23-year-old, tested positive.
Difficult situation
Mr Tamakloe described the situation as a very difficult one which needs maximum care and attention, stressing that nobody below age 25 tested positive at the initial outbreak of the pandemic last year.
That notwithstanding, he said the municipal health directorate was still working hard to bring things under control. He however advised parents to protect their children by monitoring and encouraging them to frequently wash and sanitize their hands as well as wear nose masks.
The municipal health director urged parents to also adhere to the safety protocols and issues relating to sanitation. He further urged them to ignore rumours of infection among health workers by always visiting facilities for services.
Concerns
In a related development, Daniel Bonfeh, the regional health promotion officer, has expressed concern over the increasing number of Covid-19 active cases in the region. He disclosed that ten out of the fourteen Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region have positive cases, with Sekondi-Takoradi leading with 227 and Effia-Kwesimintim with 50.
Mr Bonfeh said the fight against Covid-19 is a collaborative one, and therefore appealed to individuals and organisations to always support Ghana Health Service with Personal Protective Equipment(PPEs).
