Dean of the GIMPA Faculty of Law, Kwaku Agyeman-Budu
The Dean of the GIMPA Faculty of Law, Kwaku Agyeman-Budu, has reaffirmed the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration’s (GIMPA) commitment to advancing scholarship and advocacy in international criminal law and justice in Africa.
He made the remarks during the launch of the maiden edition of the African Journal of International Criminal Justice (AJICJ), the flagship publication of the African Centre of International Criminal Justice (ACICJ) at the Dr. Daniel McKorley Moot Courtroom, GIMPA Law School, on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Milestone
Delivering the purpose of the gathering, the Dean said it was a great pleasure to welcome them to the event, which marks a “significant milestone” in GIMPA’s efforts to promote international criminal law and justice across the continent.
He explained that the African Centre of International Criminal Justice (ACICJ), established in 2017, serves as a research and advocacy hub that disseminates knowledge about the role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the relevance of international criminal law in Africa.
“Since its inception, the Centre has been at the forefront of promoting knowledge and understanding in this field, making significant contributions to scholarship and advocacy on international criminal justice,” he noted.
Excellence
Mr. Agyeman-Budu emphasized that the launch of the AJICJ stands as a testament to the Centre’s dedication to excellence and its role in shaping the discourse on international criminal justice in Africa.
He said the journal provides a vital platform for scholars, practitioners, and students to engage with emerging issues in the field and to share their research with a broader audience.
He also commended the commitment and perseverance of the students who worked on the publication.
He observed that the journal reflects the hard work and dedication of students enrolled in GIMPA’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Criminal Law and Justice, who were instrumental in spearheading the project.
Mr. Agyeman-Budu expressed delight that the keynote address for the occasion would be delivered on behalf of the acting Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, whom he described as “a champion of justice and the rule of law in Ghana and beyond.”
Appreciation
He also expressed gratitude to the Deputy Rector of GIMPA for chairing the event and to all invited guests for their invaluable presence.
The Dean further described the launch of the journal as a “significant milestone” for both the ACICJ and GIMPA Law School, expressing optimism that it would make a meaningful contribution to advancing international criminal law and justice on the continent.
“I look forward to the impact this publication will have on international criminal law and justice, and to the many exciting initiatives that the ACICJ and GIMPA Law School will undertake in the years to come,” he indicated.
