Dennis Obeng Agyei, Assembly Member of Oda Nkwanta Electoral Area

The Assembly Member of Oda Nkwanta Electoral Area in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, Dennis Obeng Agyei, has been adjudged the most performing Assembly Member in the area.

According to research conducted by BISTECH Institute, a Ghana-based research organisation, Mr Agyei had 71 percent in all the parameters measured.

In an interview with the Daily Statesman, Lead Researcher of BISTECH Institute, Bismark Appiah, said the organisation subjected all the electoral areas to a three-week based quantitative research with the support of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly.

The findings concluded that, out of the 16 electoral areas sampled, 71 percent said in just two terms of Mr Obeng Agyei’s administration had performed well in terms of representation, good governance, and development.

Mr Appiah explained that his outfit considered certain duties of the Assembly Members to arrive at their conclusions.

He noted that the parameters considered were effective representation, ability to initiate innovative projects in electoral areas, and electoral area development in terms of infrastructure, among others.

The Institute also congratulated Assembly Members in the area for their role in deepening governance and participatory democracy.

According to him, Assembly Members are the fulcrum of the government’s decentralization programme and, therefore, the importance of their roles cannot be underestimated. He said in that regard there is a need to weigh their performances, and encourage them to do more for their respective electoral areas.

Welcoming

Meanwhile, Mr Obeng Agyei has welcomed the news, saying he was not surprised because he had served the people well.

“The records show for themselves. I’ve collated their problems and made sure I follow up to ensure that their grievances are resolved. I have lobbied in bringing infrastructural development to their doorsteps. I have lobbied for clinics, good roads, payment of school fees to brilliant but needy students,” he told the Daily Statesman.

“Beyond that, I have lobbied for employment opportunities for some of the youth to reduce the unemployment situation in the assembly. I have helped to provide residents with potable water and also scholarships. It is no surprise the people of Birim Central Municipality testified of my good deeds in the survey,” he stressed.

The Assemblyman noted that he also primed them to be change agents who seek to transform the socio-economic circumstance of the community, and contribute to advancing the well-being of society.

According to him, he has also helped in training the next crop of transformational leaders who are patriotic, selfless, and community-oriented.

Commitment

On leadership, he highlighted his exemplary contribution to growth, peace and security in the electoral area. He attributed his outstanding performance to the confidence the electoral area continues to repose in him, assuring them of his commitment to making life more dignifying and comfortable for them.

He pledged to continue leading a cohesive electoral area to held unite Ghana behind a transformational agenda of exemplary leadership and excellence in all spheres of national life.

“The people of Oda Nkwanta electoral area should expect more from me; I will serve them better. I will continue to bring to bear a future-oriented and dynamic generation ready to make a quantum leap into transforming Ghana. This success and phenomenal growth in my leadership were mainly due to contribution and service,” the Assemblyman added.
