The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has called on Africa leaders to embrace a greater unity and purpose across the continent to achieve a sustainable and reliable energy future.
He made the call while setting the context on the topic for panel discussion ” Delivering Affordable, Accessible and Sustainable Energy Solutions for Africa” during the APD 2025 Day 2 at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday, 31st January 2025.
Mr. Jinapor stressed the critical role of cooperation among African nations in overcoming the continent’s energy challenges and ensuring universal access to electricity.
According to him, it is crucial to address Africa’s energy deficit, because “pver 600 million people on the continent still lack access to electricity”.
This shortage, he explained, was a significant barrier to economic growth and poverty reduction, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where energy access is most limited.
“In order to achieve a sustainable energy future, Africa must work together. It is only through collaboration that we can unlock the continent’s full potential, overcome the energy crisis, and drive inclusive development,” Mr Jinapor added.
The Minster emphasised that Ghana had made strides in improving its energy infrastructure, ensuring that more of the population had access to electricity than many other nations in the region.
