Genser Energy Ghana Limited, American Chamber of Commerce, Ghana and the Ghana Union Assurance Company have pledged to build a model market, as part of their corporate social responsibilities to improve the livelihood of victims of the Apeate explosion.
The Genser team, led by the vice-president for Sustainability, Erica M. Daniel, presented the team’s idea to build an all-inclusive, covered market worth GH₵950,000 for the victims of the explosion.
During her presentation, Daniel disclosed that her company had already made a donation of 1,000 bags of cement as their initial contribution towards the reconstruction of the community.
“As a company deeply imbeded in our partner communities, we have made it our top priority to ensure our ability to make a generous contribution to the value of the recovery and reconstruction of Apeate”, she said.
She added that, in partnership with the American-Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Ghana Union Assurance, the said funds would be utilized to build the model market. This, she noted, would help recover economic loss from the devastation as well as generate income.
“It is our belief that, if given the right support, the community will re-emerge resilient and even more dynamic than before. We hope that this new market place will help to restore a sense of normalcy to the people of Apeate,” she stated.
Madam Daniels urged other entities and individuals to extend support towards the reconstruction of the community just as exhibited by her outfit.

Similarly, Simon Madjie, the executive secretary of American Chamber of Commerce, Ghana, expressed his delight to be in partnership with Genser Energy, assuring to contribute to the reconstruction of the Apeate community.
He encouraged more companies from United States of America working in Ghana to follow their model in rebuilding Apeate.
Responding, the Chair of the Apeate Support Fund, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, said accountability is important to them as a team, clarifying that “the over GH₵900,000 is not a cash or cheque amount received into the Fund but rather the Genser team are going to build a modern market worth that amount as their contribution towards the reconstruction of the Apeate community”.
“We are delighted to know that the Genser and Co. team are not just passionate to restore livelihoods but have also chosen an area of vibrant economic activity,” she indicated.
Commendation
She lauded the efforts of Genser and the other companies towards the building of well-covered and an all-inclusive market with water supply, electricity and a crèche to house the babies of the market woman.
Dr. Aryee further called for a collaborative work with the Apeate Reconstruction Implementation Team to ensure that their plan for building the market is in sync with the specification of reconstruction team.
The CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and member of the Apeate Support Fund Committee, Dr Sulemana Koney, described the idea of building such a sustainable market, as a “fantastic idea”
He said their expectation is that after completion of the entire project, the market would be a model one for others to learn from.
