The Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has touted government’s monumental record in health infrastructure, underscoring its significance to healthcare delivery and economic growth.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Dr. Okoe Boye outlined the remarkable progress made in the health sector, emphasizing the positive impacts of these initiatives on healthcare access, efficiency, and economic growth.
Taking his turn at the minister’s press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Dr. Okoe Boye highlighted the government’s extensive efforts in building district, regional, and specialist hospitals, alongside numerous Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and centers of excellence. These infrastructure projects have significantly improved healthcare accessibility, especially in underserved and remote areas, ensuring that quality medical services are within reach for all citizens.
“The construction of these healthcare facilities has not only enhanced access to medical services but has also created jobs across various sectors. This is not just about health workers; we are seeing job creation in construction, maintenance, and ancillary services, which is driving economic growth in our communities,” Dr. Okoe Boye noted.
The Minister also highlighted the government’s investment in e-health projects and digital systems designed to bolster the efficiency of healthcare administration and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), including the NHIS APP. These technological advancements have streamlined the payment of claims and the registration process for citizens, resulting in increase in membership, fast payment of claims and a more seamless and transparent system.
“The implementation of digital systems and infrastructure has revolutionized our healthcare delivery. Hospital interconnectivity has improved efficiency, reducing waiting times and enhancing the overall patient experience. This digital transformation is a testament to our commitment to leveraging technology for the betterment of healthcare services,” Dr. Okoe Boye added.
The integration of e-health initiatives has not only facilitated better management of patient records and data but has also enabled real-time monitoring and decision-making, contributing to more effective healthcare delivery.
According to Dr. Okoe Boye the Akuffo Addo-Bawumia government continues to prioritize healthcare development in a bid to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to quality healthcare, regardless of their location or socio-economic status. He expressed optimism that these investments would pave the way for a healthier, more prosperous nation.
