Dr. John Kwakye, IEA Director of Research
The Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), John Kwakye, has said that the government must stop funding policies that are not yielding benefits to the economy.
In an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show yesterday, he said that there are far too many programmes that are populist in nature and seek to make the government popular.
“We need to take a critical look at some of the programmes and amend them,” he said.
Responding to a question related to the Free SHS policy, Dr. Kwakye said: “Free SHS is consuming so much of our resources, and I am not sure as to if the expenditure cost was anticipated.”
The IEA Director of Research also called on the government to cut down on its expenditure.
“We have a situation where our government is paying for everything that involves senior high school education … almost as though the government is a ‘father Christmas’,” Dr.Kwakye added.
