Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration under the President John Agyekum Kuffour administration and a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu-Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Akwesi Osei-Adjei, has declared intent to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship position.
He declared his intention yesterday at a press conference to extend a goodwill message to all polling station executive aspirants across the country
Mr Osei-Agyei formally hinted of his intention to contest for the party’s chairmanship position in the elections slated for July 14 to July 16, this year.
He commended party stalwarts of the party for their hard work in service to the NPP’s tradition, especially in the 2020 general election.
“It is an honour for me to say kudos to the ever-cherished gallant men and women of the New Patriotic Party for their hard work in service to our great tradition of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), towards our electoral victories, especially in the 2020 general elections. I truly believe that both executive and non-executive members deserve commendation and reward,” he said.
Breaking the 8
To break the eight, the aspiring chairman said it is imperative for the NPP to choose experienced and mature leaders, with the requisite wisdom to go back to the tradition of the party, in resurrecting the values of service, sacrifice, and reward of the great party.
Mr. Osei-Agyei vowed to empower the grassroots, strengthen internal democracy and foster consensus building within the party, if he is elected to fill the top slot. He admonished party stalwarts to consciously unite the NPP to make it formidable and attractive for purposes of “breaking the 8.”

Mr Akwasi Osei-Agyei became an official member of the party for Ejisu Juaben from 1992-1996, rose through the ranks of political appointments, including being appointed as the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in 2003.
Later, he became a substantive Minister for Foreign Affairs in July 2007-2009 as well as served in committees, including House Appointment and Trade and Industry Tourism Communication Finance.
