James Owusu, NPP USA Branch Chair aspirant
An aspirant for the Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party USA Branch, James Owusu, has unveiled what he describes as a comprehensive mobilisation strategy aimed at repositioning the branch to play a decisive role in securing victory for the party and its 2028 presidential candidate hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s EkosiiSen programme, Mr. Owusu, who currently serves as the First Vice Chairman of NPP USA, outlined a vision centred on strategic planning, grassroots coordination, resource mobilisation and member welfare to strengthen the party’s operations within the diaspora.
According to him, the success of the NPP in the 2028 general elections would depend heavily on disciplined organisation and the effective mobilisation of human, financial and logistical resources across all levels of the party structure.
“Unstoppable force”
Mr. Owusu explained that his leadership vision for the branch was anchored on building what he termed an “unstoppable force” capable of contributing meaningfully to the electoral fortunes of the NPP and Dr. Bawumia.
As part of the strategy, he announced plans to establish an official NPP USA Branch Secretariat to streamline the activities of the branch and improve administrative efficiency.
He indicated that the proposed secretariat would help accelerate the processing and issuance of membership cards while serving as the central administrative office for branch operations.
Mr. Owusu stressed that the establishment of a permanent secretariat would bring greater structure, accountability, coordination, and professionalism to the activities of the branch, adding that many diaspora operations had over the years relied heavily on informal systems.
In addition to the administrative reforms, the NPP USA Vice Chairman also introduced a grassroots mobilisation initiative known as “One Chapter Member, One Polling Station.”
Under the initiative, he explained that every member of the branch would be encouraged to adopt and directly support specific polling stations in Ghana ahead of the 2028 elections.
According to him, the support would include sponsorship of polling station activities such as agent training, voter engagement, and election day logistics.
Diaspora resources
He maintained that the strategy was intended to direct diaspora resources to the exact points where elections are won or lost, while strengthening the party’s operational capacity at the grassroots level.
Mr. Owusu further stated that the welfare of party members would remain a major priority under his leadership.
He noted that members of the party deserved recognition and support for their sacrifices and commitment to the NPP, adding that he intended to introduce visible and reliable welfare interventions that would make members feel valued and appreciated.
On internal party democracy and electoral conduct, the Chairmanship aspirant assured party members that he and his team would fully comply with all regulations and guidelines that would be issued by the NPP USA Branch Electoral Committee for the conduct of branch elections.
He emphasised the need for unity, discipline, and respect for the party’s internal processes to preserve the integrity and credibility of the branch.
Party experience
Touching on his experience within the party, Mr. Owusu recounted his political journey from his days in TESCON in Ghana to serving as Branch Youth Organiser, Cincinnati Chapter Chairman, and eventually First Vice Chairman of NPP USA.
He argued that his years of active involvement within the party had equipped him with the experience and understanding needed to reposition the branch ahead of the 2028 elections.
Mr. Owusu also stated that with the NPP already preparing towards the next general elections through the formation of various Sector Committees, diaspora branches such as NPP USA must align themselves with the broader national strategy of the party.
He stressed that the branch must move beyond rhetoric and focus on delivering measurable electoral support to the party’s campaign efforts.
According to him, the ultimate objective remained the mobilisation of resources, organisation of people, and delivery of victory for both Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in 2028.
