The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, has donated an amount of GH₵20,000 to the Apeate Support Fund to complement government’s efforts to rebuild the community as well as provide relief for affected persons.
This donation by Mr Jinapor follows earlier donations from Pelangio Exploration Inc, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minerals Commission, making him the fourth to donate to support the fund
He commended those who had contributed to the fund so far, particularly President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for leading the charge.
He encouraged Ghanaians, residents and friends in Ghana to also contribute, just as the slogan of the fund demands “Obiatua bi”.
He also praised the members of the committee in charge of the fund for their service to the nation, saying “I commend the committee for their excellent national service to the nation. They’ve done a good job so far”.
No scam
Receiving the donation, the chairperson of the Apeate Support Fund, Dr. Joyce Aryee, said the Minister’s show of leadership is exemplary, and called on other ministers to follow his steps.
She disclosed that the President, who made a GH₵100,000 pledge, had redeemed it, stressing “the money has hit our account, and we are grateful”.
Dr. Aryee assured the media that there was no scam, and there would be no scam in the collection and disbursement of the funds, emphasising that disbursement of proceeds from the Fund would be done as transparently as possible to cross out any questions and cynicism.
She also encouraged the media to propagate the gospel of the collection to enable more people contribute towards the fund and, more importantly, help rebuild the model community.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Ghana has also presented a cheque for GH₵50,000 to support the aim of the fund. Their donation makes them the first Embassy in Ghana to contribute towards the fund.
