Kennedy Agyapong, Assin Central MP

The Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Suame in the Ashanti region, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, says his colleague MP and NPP flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is equally fit as far as the choice of a 2024 NPP flagbearer is concerned.
He said this during an interaction between Mr Agyepong and NPP delegates in the Suame constituency on his listening tour of the Ashanti Region.
The Majority leader extolled the sterling qualities of the Assin Central MP, describing him as “an experienced lawmaker”. He also praised him for the several selfless gestures of philanthropy that had touched every ‘nook and cranny’ of the party.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu tasked party faithful to be loyal first to the interest of the party than to individuals, as the various flagbearer hopefuls call on them to support their bids.
Caution
The Majority Leader cautioned: “If you don’t like him, do not say anything that will disgrace him. Mind you, all those claims being made about candidates, you are not witnesses to”.
“Nobody knows tomorrow; if you insult Ken and it turns out that he is the chosen flagbearer, you have damaged the chance of the party. Whoever is your preferred candidate, sell him and his mission; there is no need defaming people,” he stressed.
He also made an observation with the American presidential outcomes over the years, when only three persons have usually risen to occupy the White House – former Vice Presidents, former lawmakers or former state governors.
US analogy
During Donald Trump’s era, he observed, it was the first time that the American voters opted for a businessman as President.
Going by the American analogy, the Majority Leader averred that Ken Agyapong qualifies to be President on two legs, saying “first as a Member of Parliament, and second as an astute businessman”.
