A Suhum-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) operating in the Eastern Region is engaging the media to explore ways to mobilise resources for community development programmes.
To this end, the NGO has organised a consultative session with the media in Koforidua to strengthen partnerships, and to address pressing development needs in deprived communities.
The session further explored practical ways for media organisations to collaborate with Naabans Foundation in resource mobilisation efforts through visibility, storytelling, advocacy, and strategic partnerships.
Media leverage
Addressing the media, the Executive Director of Naabans Foundation, Nana Abena Somakyire, emphasised the importance of collaboration, stating that Naabans believes in partnership and that government alone cannot take the burden.
She highlighted the media’s power to shift visibility and funding, making it vital in achieving the foundation’s goals.
The Executive Director further called on media organisations to join hands with Naabans Foundation to amplify the NGO’s impact, and transform more lives in the Eastern Region and Ghana as a whole.
She also expressed hope that the engagement would inspire support, and open doors for funding to bridge the gap between underdeveloped communities.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Ampem Darko Koranteng, stressed the need for NGOs to operate with transparency and accountability to ensure they have the maximum support of media personnel and organizations.
He advised the Foundation to provide clear financial information, impact reports, progress updates to build trust and confidence with donors and media.
Mr. Koranteng also emphasised the importance of evaluating the effectiveness of media engagement, noting that by leveraging media influence effectively, grassroots NGOs could build donor confidence, drive support, and secure funding to achieve their mission.
