The Ministry of National Security has called on residents of the Lower Manya Krobo and Yilo Krobo municipalities to cooperate with the security agencies and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure law and order as electricity supply is restored to the affected areas.
The call comes on the back of series of engagements over the precarious security situation and disruption of electricity supply to communities in the Lower Manya Krobo and Yilo Krobo Municipalities.
A statement released by the Ministry yesterday said the paramount chiefs, led by the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, on August 11, 2022, facilitated a stakeholder meeting which involved the Ministry of National Security, the Electricity Company of Ghana, the Eastern Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executives of the two municipalities.
Key points
The National Security Ministry disclosed that following the action, key points were agreed on for implementation towards restoring electricity supply to the Lower Manya Krobo and Yilo Krobo municipalities, while addressing the volatile security situation in the area.
“The programme will begin with conduct of integrity tests on all power transmission lines and electricity infrastructure in the area. Then, there will be resumption of the installation of prepaid meters, which will be followed by the restoration of electricity supply to the areas,” the statement said.
Additionally, the Ministry noted that the deployment of security personnel to the said areas to ensure law and order during the installation of pre-paid meters was in order.
The statement added that there would also be the provision of technical assistance by the 49 Field Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces to ECG technicians during the installation process, warning that police will arrest persons whose conduct threatens to disrupt the exercise.
“It is anticipated that the consensus reached between the said stakeholders would engender peace and security, promote socio-economic activities, and restore normalcy to the Lower Manya Krobo and Yilo Krobo Municipalities,” the Ministry concluded.
