The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region, in marking the celebration of the Great Fetu Afahye at 60, has donated essential items to the Children’s Ward of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
The donation from the NPP Central Region was led by the Deputy General Secretary, Dr Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko and the NPP Central Regional Women’s Organizer, Ms Charlotte Adwoa Antwi. The NPP Parliamentary candidate for Cape Coast North, Mr Horace Ekow Ewusie, and the Constituency Women’s Organizer, Eunice Aba Sackey, joined the team.
Donation details & purpose
The donation, valued at GHC12,000 included a variety of essential welfare items such as toiletries and also some biscuits, drinks and sweets, toys, colouring and reading books to give a joyful festival mood to the children.
Dr. Tsiboe-Darko, who presented the donation on behalf of the party, emphasized that the party’s gesture was part of a broader commitment to caring for the sick and vulnerable, especially children.
She noted that the annual donation to the ward was a testament to the NPP’s dedication to the well-being of Ghanaians, with a special focus on children.
“This year, as we were preparing for the Afahye celebration, we decided to share something with the children to mark the festival. It’s all in the spirit of love and giving, which is what the NPP stands for,” Dr. Tsiboe-Darko stated. She added that the donation was aimed at allowing the children and their families to participate in the joy of the Fetu Afahye festival, despite their circumstances.
Supporting the financially strained
In addition to the donation of items, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Horace Ekow Ewusie, extended his support further by settling the medical bills of three children who had been detained at the hospital due to their families’ inability to pay for their treatment.
Mr. Ewusie personally covered over GHC4,000 in medical expenses, ensuring that the affected children could be discharged after receiving necessary care.
The three children, who had been on admission for periods ranging from two weeks to one month, had been treated for various ailments but were unable to leave the hospital due to the outstanding bills. Mr. Ewusie, upon learning of their plight during interactions with their parents, immediately took action to settle the costs.
Appreciation
The Chief Nursing Officer at the Paediatric Unit, Afia Attakorah, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the hospital. She noted that the donation was timely, and the settlement of the medical bills had a significant impact on the children and their families.
“We are deeply appreciative of the NPP’s continuous support. These families were truly in need, and your gesture has provided them with much-needed relief. We are thankful for your generosity and hope that this partnership continues to benefit the children in our care,” she remarked.
