John Boadu, NPP General Secretary
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Muslims to always pray for the nation, the government and its leaders as they work to tackle the current economic ills plaguing the country.
According to the party, the economic challenges have been caused largely by the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine war, hence the need for all to make some sacrifices in tackling them.
In a congratulatory statement addressed to the Muslim community on their Eid festivities, signed by NPP’s General Secretary, John Boadu, the party admonished Muslims to be health conscious and moderate in whatever they do, as the country is returning to normalcy from restrictions caused by the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
Congratulations
“On the occasion of the successful completion of Ramadan Fast, which is climaxed with the observance of Eid-Ul-Fitr, the NPP is pleased to congratulate all Muslims in Ghana and across the globe, and to also wish them Eid Mubarak. Eid-Ul-Fitr is an important festivity celebrated by Muslims all over the World to mark the end of the Holy month of Ramadan (Fasting).
“It is characterised by merrymaking, alms-giving and the observance of Eid Prayers to thank Almighty Allah for seeing Muslims through the holy month of Ramadan, during which time, they intensify their supplications including the observance of some special congregational prayers such as iftar, tarawih and tahajjud prayers,” part of the statement read.
The statement recalled that, for the past three years, these religious activities were largely restricted due the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, which had drastically changed the World order.
It added: “Fortunately, this year, by the grace Almighty ALLAH, the country is seeing a return to normalcy, even though we are not completely out of the woods yet. On account of this, therefore, it is submitted that, much as the restrictions have been significantly relaxed, we still need to be health conscious and moderate in our celebrations”.
The party commended Muslims for strictly adhering to the Covid-19 health protocols throughout these years, and cautioned them to be moderate in celebrating because “we are not completely out of woods yet”.
