Mr Stephen Ayesu Ntim, an aspiring National Chairman of the NPP, has called on Ghanaians, especially members of his party, to rally behind the government as it seeks to implement new measures to navigate the economy through the current turbulence.
The NPP Chairman hopeful made the call at a meeting with some party members in the Greater Accra Region over the weekend.
He said in the light of the exigencies facing the nation, unity is required on the part of all rank and file of the party in helping to project the positive policies government is putting in place to deliver an economic rebound.
“We find ourselves in difficult times because there is COVID-19 and, now, the Russia and Ukraine war. These unfortunate incidents have adverse impacts on nations, whether you like it or not. Today, prices of fuel and other essential commodities are going up, and other nations are also battling with this challenge,” he said.
Clarion call
To this end, Mr Ntim urged Ghanaians to understand the current situation and support the government as it prepares to roll out new measures to address the nagging challenges confronting the various sectors.
“The party has fulfilled the promises in its manifesto, and the time has come to continue its good works to the letter. The NPP government has performed well. We have constructed the roads, and have set up the factories. We have digitised the economy. We have created the jobs, and have stabilised the power sector. We have provided the Free SHS. We have provided the infrastructure. So it is time for NPP to continue its good works, and it will take hard work from all of us here,” he reminded party members.
The former National First Vice Chairman of the NPP also descended on the leadership and communicators of the opposition National Democratic Congress for creating the impression that they could have done something better under the current situation.
“With their abysmal record on economic management, it is not something to be forgotten anytime soon. Under the NDC, Ghana’s economy was run aground. Hopelessness was the order of the day. Even without COVID-19 they couldn’t employ teachers and nurses, let alone pay them; what is the guarantee that they can come back under more critical times to perform any magic?” he queried.
