Some drug substances found on the suspects
The Odumase Police Command in the Eastern Region have arrested 17 suspected criminals in a ghetto swoop conducted at various places in the District.
The operation, which was undertaken over the weekend at Odumase and Atua, saw the arrest of 14 males and three females. Substances believed to be Indian hemps and other components of hard drugs were found on the suspected criminals. The suspects have since been detained under Police custody.
Rationale
The Odumase District Police Commander, Superintendent Doris Akua Grant, explained that the operation was very timely and necessary, amid growing sense of insecurity in the area as residents complain of unending criminal activities.
According to her, the Police also realised that the youth in the area were engaged in drugs, especially the smoking of weed, which had resulted in the creation of many ghettos in the area.
The Police Commander also hinted that similar operations would be carried out in the coming days to ensure that the overall objective of cracking down on recalcitrant youth and ridding the communities of drug abuse is achieved.
“Currently, the general security situation here is calm. However, we are going to take statements from the suspects after which they will be screened,” the police commander stated.
