The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has given the assurance to collaborate with government in sustaining the good works of the Secretariat.
The assurance comes against the background of the Secretariat having successfully rolled out several interventions to positively impact the digitisation of scholarship application process. It particularly relates to the decentralisation of the processes for the benefit of a cross section of students from the various districts as well as others taking part in outside programmes.
Dr. Kingsley Agyemang gave the assurance on Monday when he paid a visit to the national officers and staff of the NPP in the party’s national headquarters at Asylum Down.
Present were the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye; Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko; Director of Finance and Administration, William Amoah; Director of Research and Elections, Evans Nimako; Deputy Director of Research, Dr. Nyame Baafi, and some staff of the Party Headquarters.
Scholarship key
Dr Agyemang explained that one of the most effective tools to accelerate national development is through the award of scholarships to brilliant, needy individuals and deserving students.
To this end, he said his outfit will continue to complement government’s efforts in promoting education across the length and breadth of the country, irrespective of one’s social background.
“I believe education is the most important asset a nation can give its citizens because the development of every nation largely depends on how educated its people are. And with our mandate to ensure that we support individuals financially, the Secretariat under my watch will not relent on this agenda,” he assured.
He also referred to the mandate to back President Akufo-Addo’s vision of making education accessible to all in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Agyemang further assured that the Secretariat will stay committed in helping promote learning activities for all, irrespective of geographical area or class.
This visit forms part of the initiative introduced by the NPP current executives, dubbed Party-Government Engagements, meant to bridge the gap between government appointees and party officers in the party’s quest to mobilise its rank and file for a third consecutive electoral victory in 2024.
The National Organiser thanked the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat for the visit, and urged him strive to address the legitimate concerns of beneficiaries of government scholarships promptly to avert undue delay in the release of scholarship subventions.
He also commended Dr. Kingsley for doing an excellent job in widening the scholarship net, and implored him to do more to increase scholarship opportunities for the nation’s youth, particularly members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON).
