
Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, SSNIT Director-General
The Director-General of Social Security and National Insurance Trust, John Ofori-Tenkorang, has been named the second best Chief Executive Officer of State Owned Enterprises for 2021.
The recognition followed a survey conducted by FAKS Investigative Services. This is the 10th survey in the series conducted by the investigating body.
In total, 3,551 respondents out of 3,953 indicated that the performance of the SSNIT boss since he took office in 2017 had been recognised widely, sharing the same spot with the CEO of Ghana Gas, Dr. Benjamin Asante, and the CEO of Students Loan Trust Fund, Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah.
The respondents cited the smooth rollout of SSNIT-NIA number merger, despite the challenges associated in the acquisition of Ghana Card, significant improvements in claims processing, among others, as some of the major achievements.

That, according to Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang, would not have been possible without the backing of the government, the Board, as well as the Trust’s management and personnel.
Commenting on how he could lead his team to attain such heights in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, he had this to say: “Regardless of previous issues, you now have to deal Covid-19 in ensuring that your employees are protected in the workplace and that they take the required steps at home to avoid bringing the virus into the workplace,” he said.
“For an organisation like ours, where we rely on contributions, some areas of the economy were damaged, and our collections were challenged, but we kept our promises and made sure that pensioners were paid on time,” he told the Daily Statesman.
The SSNIT boss further told this paper that his outfit devised a number of solutions, including the sharing of PPEs, contain the situation.
“On the other hand, we needed to manage spending, which we combined with the fact that where we identified pensions that were not genuine, we devised methods to ensure that those pensions were terminated.
“It’s been difficult, but I believe that with the correct commitment and approach, we’ll be able to continue doing what we’re doing without exposing our employees and stakeholders to the infection,” he further assured.
