The University Teachers for Free SHS Ghana, an advocacy group supporting the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, has strengthened its grassroots campaign in the Upper West Region.
As part of their efforts, the group paid a courtesy visit to the Upper West Regional Minister and engaged with New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives to strategize on intensifying door-to-door outreach ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The group, made up of university lecturers championing education and social progress under the NPP’s leadership, reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the region fully supports the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and parliamentary candidates like Hajia Ummu of Wa Central.
Visit to the Regional Minister
During their visit to the Upper West Regional Minister, the group emphasized the importance of consolidating the gains of the Free SHS policy. They expressed gratitude for the government’s dedication to improving education and development in the region.
The Regional Minister welcomed the group’s efforts and commended their innovative approach to political advocacy. He urged them to continue engaging communities to highlight the positive impacts of the Free SHS policy and other initiatives introduced by the NPP government.
“This is a pivotal time for our party and our country,” the Minister stated. “Your dedication to promoting the achievements of the NPP is commendable, and I am confident that your efforts will resonate with the people.”
Door-to-door campaign
Following their interaction with the Regional Minister, the group joined forces with party executives to embark on door-to-door outreach in various communities. The initiative aimed to bring the party’s message directly to the people, fostering meaningful dialogue about their concerns and aspirations.
The lecturers and executives engaged with residents, explaining the NPP’s vision for sustained development and emphasizing the need for unity to achieve shared goals.
“Together, it is POSSIBLE!” became the rallying cry of the campaign, underscoring the group’s belief in collective action and the transformative power of good governance.
Grassroots engagement
The door-to-door campaign provided an opportunity for direct interaction with residents. Community members expressed their views on local challenges, including education, healthcare, and employment. The group assured them that the NPP remains committed to addressing these issues through pragmatic policies and leadership.
Members of the advocacy group remarked, “This is about connecting with the people at a personal level, understanding their needs, and showing them that the NPP is the right choice for sustainable growth.”
Strengthening regional support
The campaign is part of a broader effort by the University Teachers for Free SHS Ghana to mobilize support for the NPP across the Upper West Region. By working closely with party leaders and local stakeholders, the group aims to ensure a strong showing for the party in the 2024 elections.
