A senior academic from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Lawrence Kwami Aziale, has challenged Energy Minister-Designate and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor, over his recent comments on Ghana’s electricity crisis.
In a statement, Mr. Aziale questioned Mr. Jinapor’s earlier claim that power outages, commonly known as “dumsor,” would begin within five hours after former President John Mahama’s swearing-in due to alleged resource mismanagement by the previous administration. Two days later, however, the forecasted outages have not occurred.
“Minister-Designate, you predicted power outages would happen five hours after President Mahama’s inauguration, blaming the previous government for mismanaging resources. But here we are, two days on, and this has not happened. Are you still engaging in propaganda, even while in government?” Mr. Aziale asked.
The lecturer went further to suggest that Mr. Jinapor’s prediction may have been a ploy to gain public attention in preparation for his ministerial nomination.
“I wonder whether this was an attempt to attract attention ahead of your Energy Minister appointment. It is time to abandon the usual propaganda, focus on solving our electricity challenges, and deliver the work we elected you to do. Only time will reveal your true commitment,” he asserted.
