A Deputy General Manager of Ghana Cooperative Credit Union, Dr Solomon Owusu Nyarko, has advised the youth to take their education seriously and do away with some social vices, particularly sports betting, internet and romance fraud among others.
Rather, he has urged them to focus on their education and personal development. This he says is the means by which the country can bridge the poverty and rich gap and build responsible citizenry.
Speaking at Akuapem Tutu over the weekend, Dr Owusu Nyarko said the world is changing at a fast pace and the only means by which Ghana can catch up is when its youth commit to personal development and dedicate themselves to enhanced personal ethics.
He said this when the credit union supported over 150 students in the area. The union presented exercise books and other stationery to the students.
Donation
Branch Manager for Akuapem Credit Union at Tutu, Mr Alex Asare, explained that the Credit union has arrangement where young people get the opportunity to cultivate the habit of savings. He explained that the donation was made to such members of the Union’s youth saving group as a means to motivate others to cultivate the habit of savings. He explained that hitherto, the union used to support its youth members with financial assistance but has shifted focus to books and other stationery following the rolling out of the Free Senior High School policy.
Eastern Regional manager of the Cooperative Credit Union Ltd, Cynthia Ayisi, encouraged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of saving. She noted that Credit Union is one of the safest means of protecting one’s money and urged Ghanaians, particularly, young Ghanaians to promote the culture of savings.
Some beneficiaries applauded the union for the gesture. They also encouraged their colleagues to take advantage of the many opportunities the youth savings group provides and enroll in the project.
