The 3rd Africa Media Convention (AMC) will kick-start in Accra today, May 15, and will end on Friday, May 17, 2024.
The activities scheduled for today include a panel discussion at Labadi Beach Hotel from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, as well as a welcome dinner at the same venue at 7:00 pm.
Providing journalists with a final update on the event yesterday, the president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, announced that all the preparatory requirements had been achieved to host the event.
Requirements met
Mr Dwumfour indicated that all logistics, facilities and resources had been duly secured. He added that the AMC Secretariat Ghana had also met the pre-publicity requirements and marketing campaigns to ensure a successful host during and after the convention.
He disclosed that the secretariat had recorded over 1000 attendants of media scholars, journalists, press unions and associations as well as editors from the private and public sectors across the continent. He mentioned that the AMC secretariat was expecting over 600 foreign participants for the convention.
He stressed that the event would achieve its aim of uniting Africa’s media elite and promoting a positive narrative of Africa globally while addressing the crucial issue of combating misinformation on social media platforms, especially concerning threats to democracy.
He expressed gratitude for the Government of Ghana’s commitment to ensuring a successful event.
For her part, Mrs. Fatimatu Abubakar, Minister-designate of Information and Co-Chair of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), commended the GJA and LOC for securing the bid to host the Convention and fulfilling all the necessary requirements.
She wished all participants a successful three-day convention in Ghana.
