A Ghanaian musician and political activist, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus, says the best choice of presidential candidate for the governing NPP, is the Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong.
He believes that if Mr Agyapong takes the baton from President Nana Akuffo Addo, it will enable the party to break the 8.
Speaking in an interview on Kofi TV, he appealed to the President not to interfere in the election process and ensure free and fair election and show no support for any aspirant.
He also touched on the potentials of the front-line aspirants, namely Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyeremanten, Mahamadu Bawumia.
He argued that the Vice-President had had his fair share of the cake and must give way for a new crop of a team to lead the party.
Best choice
He described that Mr Agyapong as the best choice for the party, by dwelling on his business prowess and agility, coupled with honesty, generosity and truthfulness.
“Kennedy Agyapong’s ability to employ seven thousand, 7,158 and tremendous support for party activities makes him stand tall above the competition. It is imperative on Kennedy to intensify his campaign and tell Ghanaians who he is, and what he can do to better the life of ordinary Ghanaian,” he stated.
“I urge him to beware of rigging, but if such matters occur he will advise that Kennedy establishes a political party to face the NPP in the general election. On the other hand, he must accept defeat when he genuinely loses the election,” he added.
Kwame A Plus also reiterated that the NPP Northern activists and sympathizers should discard the notion that the time for the northern people in the party is now.
Contest
In his view, any individual in the party has the equal right to contest any position in the party without recourse to tribal concerns, once the person meets the party’s constitutional requirement.
“Should there be any such instance as the northerners must be given the nod, it is key to note that the party has largely been good to the Northern caucus. For instance, giving them the automatic occupation of a running mate position, which is a position people from other regions in the party have not ever benefited,” he added.
He cited the Central, Western and the Western North Regions have not ever benefited from such position, talkless of a presidential candidate for the party.
He noted that the political machinery of the opposition NDC, which is geared towards championing steady stream propaganda against NPP will not yield a fruitful result.
