The Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, has observed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attempted to change the destiny of Ghana for their personal benefit, advising citizens, especially the youth of voting age, to be mindful of who to cast their votes for ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Referring to the recent case involving Labianca Foods, he said he was not surprised that the NDC was hiding behind the Labianca scandal to hit the NPP as though the NDC have been saints in political office under John Mahama.
Speaking in an interview with the media, the Bono Regional Chairman also bemoaned how ignorant people has joined the NDC chorus, even though they hardly understand the issues.
“So, the NDC think they are in a better position to come to power in 2024. Look…when you have your establishment working hard, and enjoying tax waivers then, people begin to envy you. As young people, be mindful and calculative when time comes to vote in the 2024 generals elections. If you have made up your mind to vote for NDC, bear in mind that the NDC have sold the country and yourself…” he stated.
Mr Baffoe alleged that the Meridian Port Service (MPS) had signed a deal the Ghana government under former President John Mahama, saying the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in 2015 attempted selling the GPHA.
Alleged
He further alleged that the reason for Mahama attempting to engage in that deal was because GPHA was raking in huge revenue for the country, adding that “instead of capitalising on the potential as President to support it in expanding it to continue creating jobs, Mahama had ulterior motives that would have crippled GPHA had the NPP not come to power”.
“This is indisputable because the records are there. John Mahama, in 2015, sold the port to a French national company for a 35-year period duration. So all young people in your twenty’s, for example, add that 35years to your current age, and there you will realise how happy or unhappy you are to be voting for someone who tried to sell a state property to your detriment.
“A place [GPHA] our country generated most of its state’s revenue had been sold to the Meridian Port Services (MPS) for 35years. Report from GPHA, “Page 13 states that tax waivers granted by Parliament of Ghana after signing the deal of agreement in June 2015, Meridian Port Services with the support of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Ministry of Transport made an application for tax waivers and concession through the Ministry of Finance to Parliament of Ghana in January 2016, and was granted tax waivers totaling 832million dollars in March 2016,” he quoted.
“Yes, it happened in this country. After selling the GPHA for MPS for 35years, there was an additional 15 years’ agreement extension to the original 35-year original deal. Do you want such a person to steer the affairs of this country again?” he wondered.
He contended that checks from the contract had proven that the contract was packed with terms that ripped of Ghana of some huge revenue, destroyed job creation, scared potential investors, as well as robbed a lot of citizens of Ghana of their current jobs at the port.
He therefore admonished the youth to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) come December 7, 2024 to secure their future as well as protect the gains chalked.
