A delegation of queenmothers from the Ashanti region yesterday called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at the Jubilee House, to formally announce to him activities earmarked for the fifth anniversary of the passing on of the Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.
The queenmothers, who were led by Otumfuo Kyeame Baffour Kantankrakyi, disclosed that they were delegated by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to inform the President and officially invite him to grace the occasion slated for February 6.
Activities
He mentioned that, starting from February 6, a memorial service will be held in honour of the late Asantehemaa, followed by a gathering at a park named after the late queenmother.
He said the grand activity, Awukudae, would be held on February 17, where a grand durbar will be held in memory of the late queenmother.
President Akufo-Addo, for his part, welcomed the idea of honouring the late Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem, adding that he was honoured to have been formally invited by the Asantehene.
He was however quick to add that some national issues, including the EU-AU Summit, slated for February 16, might make it impossible for him to honour the invitation.
He mentioned that an earlier agreement made between Ghana and Germany where the former will be producing its own vaccines for the sub-region will take off within that period, where a formal agreement will be signed for the project to take off.
President Akufo-Addo, however, pledged his support for the occasion, and said he would give any support to honour the memory of the late queenmother.
