The Western Regional Police Command has been given a three-day ultimatum to produce and parade before a Sekondi district court all personnel involved in the death of one Joseph Aidoo, a 53-year-old taxi driver, or face the consequence.
The Court has ordered the command to bring all inmates who shared common cell with the deceased to court for questioning.
The ultimatum was given by the court during sitting last Friday, and followed pathologist’s report on the actual cause of Aidoo’s death.
The case was adjourned to Friday June 24, 2020 and will continue till end of the month.
However, presiding over the case, Her Lordship Rosemary Hayford, said the case might be transferred to a high court after further developments.
Information
The Daily Statesman gathered that Joseph Aidoo was a taxi driver plying the Fijai Junction-Sekondi route. He was arrested by the police in December last year for traffic offence, and remanded into custody where he died the next day.
Reports say the deceased committed suicide. His family and friends, however, suspected foul play, and engaged the services of Dr. Isaac Erskine, a pathologist at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, to unravel actual cause of the death.
Dr Erskine’s report showed that the deceased did not commit suicide, but died from external force. Consequently, his report was rejected by the police.
The family had no option than to proceed to court to seek justice for their beloved.
