The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has handed over seven new bungalows to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region.
The gesture formed part of SHC’s efforts to provide accommodation facilities for state institutions and their staff.
The seven detached bungalows comprise two and three bedrooms for the use of officers of the Western Command of GIS.
Speaking at a short handing-over ceremony on Tuesday, the Interior Minister, Abrose Dery, commended the level of collaboration between GIS and SHC, urging other state institutions to emulate the relationship. He observed that the successful completion of the project is a “testimony of the government’s resolve towards retooling the security agencies”.
The Minister of Interior further assured officers within all the security agencies under his ministry that their accommodation challenges would be resolved.
The Deputy Managing Director of SHC, Sherifa Tijani-Sekyere, who handed over the keys to the Interior Minister, lauded Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama II, Omanhene of the Sefwi Wiaso traditional area, for his visionary leadership in giving a parcel of land to SHC for the housing project.
The ceremony was attended by the Comptroller General of GIS, Asuah Takyi; the Western North Regional Minister, Richard Obeng; a delegation of chiefs; and management of SHC.
