At least, ten people have been confirmed dead while 23 others sustained various degrees of injuries in an accident near Savelugu in the Northern Region.
Police say there were some 33 passengers on board the KIA truck, who were returning from a funeral on Sunday when the incident occurred.
Sources from the police disclosed that the KIA Rhino truck carrying the victims, in an attempt to avoid hitting a cyclist, lost control and somersaulted.
“Six persons died on the spot, whilst 27 others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to Savelugu Municipal Hospital for treatment,” it said.
Our Police source further said seven persons were referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
However, four persons, Zabaga Alhassan, 35; Iddrisu Issah, 40; Adam Iddrisu, aged 30; and Yakubu Tyro, 33, died on the same day whilst receiving further treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, bringing the total number of deaths to 10.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle is on admission at the Savelugu Municipal Hospital while the Kia Rhino truck involved in the accident has been towed to the Police station for further investigations.
In the related development, two persons were also feared dead after a tricycle, “Aboboyaa,” collided with a trailer yesterday at Offinso Old Town on the Kumasi-Techiman highway.
The Offinso Divisional Officer of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, Chief Inspector Awudi, confirmed the accident, saying it occurred at about 9:00am a few meters away from River Offin.
