The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ashaiman, Albert Boakye Okyere, has stated that his municipality is witnessing unprecedented developmental projects under President Nana Akufo-Addo.
He said there are completed projects like roads, potable water, markets, hospitals within the municipality, which are creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
“It is imperative in boosting the economic prospects of the nation and eradicating poverty in the short and long run,” the MCE added.
He was speaking yesterday during an interview with the Daily Statesman on some developmental projects undertaken within the municipality ever since he took office.
Mr. Albert Boakye noted that Ashaiman had improved significantly in terms of development, considering the ground breaking activities carried out to make the municipality one of a kind.
According to him, good road networks have been constructed in his municipality, propelling economic growth and development.
“We have constructed the Dagomba Boys’ road, which was in a deplorable state before we took over office. Now, motorists are happy because they don’t spend much time in getting to their respective destinations. The Kaketo and Tulaku roads, which were all in bad state, have been fixed as part of efforts to bring development to the doorsteps of the people of Ashaiman and beyond,” he disclosed.
He therefore commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for his continuous commitment to ensuring that every part of the country sees development.
“All development strides were possible because the President is a change agent who champions the course of development. I entreat motorists to avoid unnecessary over speeding and wrongful overtaking now that the roads are devoid of potholes,” the MCE cautioned.
The Ashaiman MCE further stressed that education for children has the ability to break the cycle of poverty, promote the well-being of children and reduce social inequality.
“The educational foundation of our children is key to national development. It is worthy of note that an individual’s earnings can rise by 10% on average for every additional year of education. The construction of the Kindergarten block at SDA school was a sure way of achieving the aforementioned objectives,” he said.
Sanitation and security
Touching on sanitation and security, the MCE said they had improved tremendously and that the filth and criminal activities that used to characterise the Ashaiman municipality are no more.
“The poor sanitation situation is now a thing of the past. We have not attained 100% satisfaction, but I believe we’ve worked so hard to bring the security situation to a very minimal level and sanitation has also improved immensely. Hitherto, before you even enter Ashaiman, what you could see was a spill over containers with animals all around them. But today, these ones are not there,” he recounted.
He also revealed that the containers used for waste disposal have been isolated, “making them invisible even when they are full, and that had improved sanitation”.
“We took over about 1300 households toilets; we are close to 8000 households. Currently, we have constructed a plant for sewerage, which is yet to be commissioned. Additionally, we’ve also stepped up prosecution for those who violate simple rules of defecating publicly. We have a team, a taskforce, that goes round every day. What has even capped the whole system is the introduction of the day city response team to check sanitation,” he indicated.
The MCE wished all BECE candidates in Ashaiman success, urging them not to panic but distinguish themselves creditably in the impending exams
