The New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA Chicago Chapter has called for unity, mutual respect, and peaceful competition among members as the party gears up for its flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2026.
In a statement issued over the week, the Chapter reminded all members, supporters, and aspirants—both in Ghana and across the diaspora—that the true strength of the NPP lies in its democratic tradition, discipline, and shared commitment to Ghana’s development.
The Chapter emphasized that healthy internal competition should never lead to division, but rather serve as a reflection of the party’s enduring democratic values.
“The party has a rich legacy of leadership selection through transparent and credible internal elections, and this race should continue to uphold that tradition,” the statement noted.
The upcoming contest features Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong—all recognized for their experience, leadership, and loyalty to the NPP’s ideals.
Since its re-establishment in 1992, the NPP has consistently championed democratic values that have made it one of Ghana’s most respected political movements. From Prof. Albert Adu Boahen’s pioneering leadership, through John Agyekum Kufuor’s unifying victories in 2000 and 2004, to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s resilient leadership between 2008 and 2016, the party has demonstrated that leadership renewal and democratic commitment can coexist.
Rooted in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, these values continue to guide the NPP as it approaches another defining moment in its history. The Chicago Chapter stressed that the upcoming flagbearer election must reflect the party’s longstanding devotion to freedom, transparency, and integrity in leadership selection.
Acknowledging the collective aspirations of the five contenders, the Chapter commended their shared dedication to the NPP’s growth and Ghana’s progress. Each aspirant, it noted, brings valuable experience and ideas that can shape the nation’s future.
The statement also referenced former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent meeting with the flagbearer hopefuls, where he urged them to remain calm, united, and focused on the party’s long-term mission. His message, the Chapter emphasized, resonated with the spirit of unity that should define the contest.
The NPP Chicago Chapter further urged all party members to campaign with dignity, respect, and discipline, warning against personal attacks and divisive rhetoric. It stressed that the true measure of democracy lies not in the competition itself, but in the unity and strength the party demonstrates after the polls.
“We must remember that after January 31, the NPP must not emerge divided but strengthened,” the statement said. “The red, white, and blue bind us all under one destiny and one mission—to serve Ghana better. Let us honor every contribution, respect every voice, and show that our democracy thrives when rooted in discipline and solidarity.”
The Chapter encouraged members to focus their campaign efforts on policies and ideas that can advance Ghana’s development rather than engaging in partisan confrontations. It reaffirmed that the discipline and maturity that have characterized the NPP’s rise must continue to define its internal processes.
The sstatement further reminded all members that regardless of their preferred candidate—whether Dr. Bawumia, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Ing. Kwabena Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, or Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum—they remain part of one family with a shared goal.
“Victory begins with unity. Unity begins with us,” the Chapter concluded.
