Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education and Assin South MP
A Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has urged Ghanaian youth to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship so as to contribute meaningfully to national development, and attain a dignifying life for themselves and their families in their various fields of study.
He made the call during the 21st congregation ceremony of the Accra Technical University (ATU) in Accra.
According to him, it is only through embracing innovation and entrepreneurship that a successful professional life can be built.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour said graduates across the world, especially in low-income and even some advanced countries, desire to get a job immediately after school. “There are a few courageous ones, however, who he applauded for daring to venture into the unknown and embrace innovations that became outstanding and successful in their respective fields,” he noted.
He added that such people were those who invented new business and technology, and proffered solutions to myriad of challenges facing the world.
“Bill Gate and his colleagues made computers a possibility, and dared to dream beyond the average expectation of graduating and expecting someone or government to put a job on his table, and today through his courage and exploits, many people have been employed,” he said.
Encouragement
The Assin South Member of Parliament further encouraged the graduates and all Ghanaian youth to have the mindset of being innovative and entrepreneurial, rather than depending on others for jobs and livelihoods.
The Council Chairman of the University, Dr. Wilfred Kwabena Anim-Odame, used the occasion to inspire the graduating students to go back home holding high the flag of Accra Technical University (ATU). This, in his opinion, is the only way to positively impact the Ghanaian economy and the world at large with the skills attained during their course of study at the University.
In all, a total of 844 students from Ghana, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Gambia graduated with various Bachelor of Technology from the faculties of Engineering, Built Environment and Applied Sciences.
